Christ Church Sandown
You are very welcome to this electronic based service specially created because we are not currently able to physically meet together. As indicated, please connect to the relevant song and sermon links. All the song links are to versions with lyrics so that you are able to join in.
Opening sentence: A reminder of the promise that God hears us when we cry out to him: Psalm 116:1 says: “I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.”
A prayer:
As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever. Amen
An opening hymn:
This hymn
was recorded for Easter Day this year, and as one of the readings for today
refers to ‘that same day’, it is good for us to join with them in their Easter
hymn and greeting. ‘Christ the Lord is risen today’ Here is a

A confession: Think of times you have failed God. Consider the need we all have of the forgiveness Jesus alone makes possible.
Almighty God,
long-suffering and of great goodness:
I confess to you,
I confess with my whole heart
my neglect and forgetfulness of your commandments,
my wrong doing, thinking, and speaking;
the hurts I have done to others,
and the good I have left undone.
O God, forgive me, for I have sinned against you;
and raise me to newness of life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
An assurance of forgiveness:
May the God of love and power
forgive us and free us from our sins,
heal and strengthen us by his Spirit,
and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Psalm: The Psalm set for today is Psalm 116:1-7.
I love the Lord, for he heard my
voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Lord, save me!”
The Lord is
gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.

Prayers: A verse from Psalm 116: '... Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Lord, save me!”...'
Blessed are you, Sovereign Lord,
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to you be glory and praise for
ever.
From the deep waters of death you brought your people to new birth by raising
your Son to life in triumph.
Through him dark death has been destroyed and radiant life is everywhere
restored.
As you call us out of darkness into his marvellous light may our lives reflect
his glory and our lips repeat the endless song. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
You may like to say the Lord’s Prayer, pausing and reflecting on each phrase:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen.
The Collect, the special prayer for the third Sunday of Easter:
Risen Christ,
you filled your disciples with boldness and fresh hope:
strengthen us to proclaim your risen life
and fill us with your peace,
to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Closing Hymn: ‘And
can it be’. Here is the link:

Closing prayer: As you come to the end of your time of worship, you may like to say the words of the Grace remembering friends and family from whom, by necessity, we are distanced.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore. Amen.
